Garretts surgery is tomorrow at 1pm at Childrens Hospital in St. Louis. I believe it will last about two hours. He is having the following procedures done:
1. Tubes in both ears
2. Circumcision
3. Repair of his cleft palate.
Garrett has a soft palate cleft (the squish part in the back of your mouth does not have skin over his). Here it is - the last day that my little guy can easily shoot milk out his nose if he wanted to.
In the surgery, they will cut along the sides of the open palate. Then they will stitch the middle and front together (image a T shape for the stiches). After the surgery he will have 2 holes - one on each side of the current open hole. His body will regenerate the skin on the sides (but not in the middle). This regrowth will take 3-6 weeks. Luckily the mouth heals quickly. And apparently the pain to him is minimal.
The circumcision on the other hand...... Lets just say I may not be his favorite person for awhile.
Please keep our little guy in your prayers tomorrow. I will try to send an update as soon as he is out and we know everything is fine.
