Tomorrow David and I meet with Garretts Special School teacher for speech therapy. He will start therapy soon at his preschool. We have to bring a list of words he speaks so I thought I would share them with all our loved ones :-)
Words Garrett has mastered (speaks without needing prompting on how to form his lips/tongue. clear enough that you can tell what he is saying over the telephone):
1. Mom / Mommy (to my thrill this is his most used word :-)
2. No (hum... not as thrilling)
3. Yea (not yes but yea)
4. Me
5. TV
6. Thank You
7. Matthew ("thew" is not so great)
8. Moon
9. Meow Meow
10. Igor (sounds very Russian when he says it)
11. Moo Moo
12. Yum
13. Oh No Phew (his newest respond to everything)
14. Nemo
Words Garrett can say (But often needs a reminder on how to shape his lips/tongue):
1. Please (weak "s")
2. Aley (weak "A")
3. Eat
4. Bye Bye
5. Book (weak "k")
6. Look (weak "k")
7. Lisa (weak "s")
8. Woof Woof
9. Yellow
10. Candy
11. Banana (usually only one "na" is clear)
12. Balloon (weak "n")
13. Beste
14. Moon
Situational Words Garrett Tries (In the situation you can tell what he is saying but without looking at him, it would be just a series of vowel sounds):
1. Un, O, E, O, IV, IX, EVE, EI, INE, EN, EVEN, WELV, UR (13 is all he goes to without confusing himself with which set of fingers to go to next).
2. Dad
3. SpongeBob
4. SuziQ, Sadie, Squirt
5. Grandpa, Grandma
6. Fran
7. Walk
8. Bike
Actually this list goes on for a long time. He really does try to talk all the time. 90% of the time he just keeps talking to us and we have to try and figure it out. It is so wonderful that his jabbers non-stop because just 4 months ago he was completely silent all the time!
We can not wait for the speech therapy to start. We are so excited to watch him blossom through words :-)
