5 months ago, I shared my bedroom with 11 little Ukrainian children. Now I have my own room but I still prefer to read and start the night in Mommy & Daddy's bed. 5 months ago, I had nothing to my name but an empty locker. Today, I have a closet full of clothes, a toy room brimming with my own toys and more books than the local library.
5 months ago, I understood Russian and Ukrainian. Now I fully understand English as well. I still watch cartoons in Russian at least 4 times a week to make sure I still understand it. I go to talk to my Ukrainian church friends once every other month to make sure I still understand that language as well. If you ask me my name, I still say Igor. But I write Garrett.
5 months ago, I weighed 34 lbs and was 39 inches tall and my 3T pants fell right off my little skinny butt. Now I weigh 38 lbs and am 41 1/2 inches tall and my belly falls right over my 3T pants. I have grown 2 shoe sizes! And I now have thick blonde hair.
5 months ago, I was silent. No truck noises, no talking, no singing. Silent. Today I am a jabbermouth. I sing at church, give peace to my fellow parishioners, sing the ABC's and wheels on the bus. I talk non-stop, mostly NO to my sister. My favorite word is Mom and Daddy. I count and make different noises for each type of vehicle.
5 months ago, I cherished praise and affection from the darling woman who came and went from my orphanage. I knew they liked me but I never felt especially loved. Today I get hundreds of hugs and kisses from my family, and all of you. I gets licks from my favorite pets, and pats on the back everytime I am good. I know that when I hear "I Love You" it is especially for me.
5 months ago, I had never left the walls of my orphanage unless I was going to the hospital. Today, I drive in a car everyday. Going on adventures, chores and trips. I stare out the window and require no attention because I am still mesmerized by all that I see.
5 months ago, I was a darling smart happy little boy. Today I am still that same darling smart happy boy. I just have a family that is so happy, blessed and thrilled to have me :-)
